Biting Insects

Fleas:

A concern with fleas is their ability to transmit disease organisms. This ability is enhanced by their promiscuous feeding habits as they move from one host species to another. For example, the cat flea, Ctenocephalides felis, readily attacks humans, dogs, rats and jackals. The human flea, Pulex irritans, can be found on dogs, rats, pigs, mice and jackals.

Infestation by fleas may also cause severe inflammation of the skin and intense itching.

Fleas most often bite people about the legs and ankles, and there are usually 2 or 3 bites in a row. The bites are felt immediately, but tend to become increasingly irritating, and are frequently sore for as much as a week.

We use a high performance residual insecticide spray treatment with a rapid knockdown to cover the total infested and surrounding areas. The treatment includes a follow-up visit to respray any problem areas.

Ticks:

The most frequently encountered tick is the Brown Dog Tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus) and is commonly found on domestic dogs.

A home can become heavily infested when dogs transport ticks inside. Brown Dog Ticks seldom bite humans, but can be a serious problem inside homes. Females can lay as many as 5000 eggs behind walls or under furniture or carpeting. Ticks like to crawl upwards and can be found in higher regions on walls, even up to ceilings.

We use a high performance residual insecticide spray treatment with a rapid knockdown to cover the total infested and surrounding areas. The treatment includes a follow-up visit to respray any problem areas.

Bed bugs:

There are several ways in which dwellings can become infested with bedbugs. People may acquire bedbugs at hotels or bed-and-breakfasts and bring them back to their homes in their luggage or they might pick them up by inadvertently bringing infested furniture or used clothing to their household.

The size of a bedbug infestation is very variable, largely dependant on the time elapsed from the initial infestation. Bedbugs are not known to be frequent carries of disease but are a pest due to the unpleasant irritation following their bites.

Treatment can be challenging with every crack and crevice within 5 – 7 meters of the host being a possible harbourage. We use a high performance residual insecticide spray and space fumigant treatment with a rapid knockdown to cover all these areas.

Bird Lice:

Bird lice needs the presence of the host (birds) to survive and breed. Unless the birds are physically blocked or prevented from roosting nearby or entering those areas, the lice may return within days of treatment. It is essential to look to bird proof the area before the bird lice spray is undertaken. (See Bird Proofing)

For bird lice we use a high performance residual insecticide spray treatment with a rapid knockdown to cover the total infested and surrounding areas
